Acupuncture offers a drug free and effective pain relief, which is reliable and fast.A typical initial acupuncture session will last 90 min, it begins with a discussion of your problem and a physical examination, followed by the treatment session. The acupuncturist may then stimulate certain points on the body, either by inserting the fine metal needles, using a laser or with muscles manipulation with Tuena or cupping.
The needles used in acupuncture are typically much finer than the needles used to take blood, and the process is usually painless. The needles used are as fine as a thread of human hair, 10 could fit inside a typical hypodermic needle to take blood.
Once the needles are inserted, they will be left in place while you lie still, and hopefully relaxed for at least 20-40 min. As many as 20 needles may be used in one session. The needles may be turned or twirled as part of the treatment, gently stimulated with a herb called moxibustion or with a fine soft electrical current – but not usually with the first treatment. The needles will be removed at the end of the session.
How to best prepare for your Acupuncture visit.
Clothing - Cloths worn should be loose fitting or easily removed. Please ensure underwear is also worn & bras easily unclasped for back treatments.
Meals – it is best to have eaten a meal before your treatment. As it is easy to become dizzy or nauseous when having a treatment on an empty stomach. It is best to not have caffeine right before a treatment.
Information – write a list or discuss your condition with a friend and then write the symptoms down.
Medications – it is very useful to have a list of medication and supplements being taken already written out, to maximize treatment time.
